Meta-data for Online Images

While discussing with students the various information available via the what meta-data your camera records in addition to your actual photograph, a question was asked about being able to see the meta-data of images online.

I use Firefox as my web-browser and there are a few different extensions/ add-ons available for Firefox users which will allow you to view the Meta-data (or exif data) of images online. Not all online images will have meta-data / exif data available – but many of them do. Each extension / add on works a bit different and they do shows the information in different ways.

To view the various extensions / add-ons, open your Mozilla/Firefox browser. Click on TOOLS in the top menu. Then Click on ADD-ONS. In the search bar, type EXIF. FxIF is the current add-on I use. FxIF works with your mouse right-click. When you find an image you want to know the metadata for, simply right-click on the image and then click FxIF Data. As window will open with the metadata information if there is any available.
